Make time for celebrating the big and little moments in life.
Making the time and space for celebrating - big and little milestones in life - is an integral part of the human experience. I believe our birthright is joy, love, and freedom. And if we can't take pause to come together and celebrate, even in small ways, than what are you working so hard for?
Celebrations are an opportunity for us to pause, reflect, and honor traditions and commemorate milestones. Often, people's greatest memories are from a cherished holiday or celebratory moment in life. What celebrations do you want to honor in your life? Is there more that you can be doing to show up for others' big moments too? Below are some easy ways to celebrate life's moments.
Interior Design, Decorating
Honoring the Easter egg
They say the the word Easter is derived from Eostre (also known as Ostara), an ancient Anglo-Saxon Goddess. She symbolized the rebirth of the day at dawn and the rebirth of life. The egg and hare were symbols of Ostara representing fertility and new life in the Spring. Since ancient times, many cultures have also associated eggs with the universe. They've been dyed, decorated and painted by many cultures, from the Romans to Persians and Chinese.
Go ahead, get that bouquet!
There are certain individuals who feel flowers are frivolous, that they don’t last, that they would rather get a plant. I'm not one of them. I truly believe flowers serve a purpose too. They are tiny, miracles of perfection. They are part of our Earth’s artistic bounty. A fireworks display of nature’s bounty whose memory will last far beyond their lifetime. So next time the thought of buying someone flowers crosses your mind, I encourage you to do it :)
Pomp and circumstance
I believe that life's little and big moments should be celebrated. Otherwise, what's the point?! If possible, I encourage you to pull out that fine china, that pass-me-down silverware set, or even add a tablecloth to the food you are serving on special occasions. Adding that little extra zing to your tablescape during a celebration will be remembered and cherished for years to come. Don't have a tablecloth? Use a colorful shawl. Get creative :)
Easy Easter decorations
Two simple things you can do to decorate for Easter - 1) Buy yourself some tulips. These are from my weekly Trader Joe’s shopping trip. 2) Lay out some Easter eggs. It’s amazing what a little thing like flowers and eggs can do to brighten your day or even week! Don't have any Easter egg decorations? Hardboil and handpaint or color some real eggs.
Easy birthday tradition
One of my favorite traditions growing up was getting baked cinnamon rolls in bed on my birthday. If you're looking for creative, yet easy ways to form a birthday tradition in your family, you can serve the person breakfast in bed. What decadence! I made this batch of cinnamon rolls from discard sourdough starter.
Natural holiday decor
I'm usually traveling over the holidays and just didn't have the energy to decorate a tree this year so, instead, I bought some fresh garland and wreaths at my local supermarket and my home was instantly transformed into a holiday haven. I love the smell of evergreen, and my tiny tree and string where I displayed my holiday cards injected the right amount of Christmas cheer into my high vibe home.
